Commonwealth ICT and Industry Awards 2016

Fresh from being recognized by The Great Place to Work Institute at the local level in the past couple of months to Continental prominence with an award from the Commonwealth stables, Courteville Business Solutions Plc has surely ignored the consequences of the dire state of the economy by continuing to strive for excellence in its dealings.

The Commonwealth Telecommunications Organization (CTO) is the oldest and largest Commonwealth intergovernmental organization which is ICT based and has being fully involved in the development and use of ICTs for social and economic development. The Management of the organization recognize that it must stay at the cutting edge of ICT developments for it to deliver significant benefits to its members.

CTO’s history can be traced back to 1901 but the organization has only existed in its present form as an intergovernmental treaty organization since 1967. The CTO has a diverse range of members including Developed Countries, Developing Countries, Least Developed Countries, Small Island Developing States and Landlocked Developing Countries. The organization ensures that its policies, decisions and actions cater to the needs of these wide range of countries. Activities in the CTO are implemented in a manner to reflect the changes in both the Commonwealth as well as the Global Telecommunications or ICT community.

The CTO which is an international treaty organization, and as such is a not-for-profit entity on the 14th of June,2016 held its first ever Commonwealth ICT Awards aimed at recognizing public, private and civil society organizations this year with the award categories for Member Countries including:

  • Universal access initiatives, Broadband initiatives,
  • ICT policy and regulatory initiatives
  • Cybersecurity initiatives
  • Spectrum management initiatives
  • Applications (e.g. e-health, m-government, etc.)

The award categories for Industry include:

  • Universal access initiatives
  • Broadband initiatives
  • Cybersecurity initiatives
  • Applications (e.g. e-health, e-learning, etc.)
  • Corporate social responsibility

Courteville was the recipient of the Commonwealth Award for Best ICT Application in the Industry category of the award ceremony which also marked the 115 years existence of the organization. Courteville, an organization that is never scared to test uncharted territory is gradually sealing its name as a mainstay in the ICT Industry.
