RIP Sound Sultan: Celebrating His Life With Some Of His Biggest Tunes

Yesterday was a sad day for the entertainment industry, as it was announced that veteran artist, Olanrewaju Abdul-Ganiu Fasasi, popularly known as Sound Sultan died at age 44 after a battle with throat cancer.

Sound Sultan was an icon, known for his catalogue of socially conscious and catchy songs filled with his bubbly and spirited personality.

To celebrate his life, let’s put a spotlight on some of his most memorable songs:

Mathematics

Let’s kick this off with ‘Mathematics’, a fan favourite. You probably sang along to this song when you were younger and will be surprised that you still remember the lyrics now that you’re older. That’s just how timeless and memorable this song is.

With children providing back- up vocals, Sound Sultan provided social commentary in such an effervescent and creative way, backed with a hilarious and adorable music video. Who can forget the new and advanced version of BODMAS he taught us? Brotherhood, Objectivity, Democracy, Modification, Accountability and Solidarity.

Sound Sultan loved addressing social issues in his music and it is truly incredible to note. On ‘Ole’ he voiced his opinions on the corruption and the lack of basic social amenities in the country. The song featured the one and only 2Face.

Who remembers this song? Sound Sultan teamed up with Starboy to deliver ‘Kokose’ an irresistible club banger that blended both artists’ personalities well. The music video was a delight to watch, with cameos from the likes of Banky W, Ice Prince, Princess, and more.

Sound Sultan had a knack for releasing the catchiest tunes filled with memorable, witty lyrics, and ‘Natural Something’ is no exception. On this hit, he sang about giving his all to a woman- a common theme in Nollywood. You can bet that the song had a hilarious and dramatic music video!
