Gunmen kill four in Kaduna village attack

 

Unknown gunmen on Monday evening invaded   Gurguzu village, near  Maguzawa, an outskirts of  Rigasa in Igabi Local Government Area of Kaduna State,  killing four persons while many persons sustained varying degrees of injuries.

An eyewitness put the number of those injured at six while another source said the figure was higher than six.

Woman burns boy’s genitals for stealing N100

 

The police in Lagos State have arrested a woman identified simply as Saratu, for allegedly burning the private parts of her seven-year-old nephew, Razak Qudus.

PUNCH Metro learnt that Saratu allegedly burnt the boy’s private parts with a stove after he was accused of stealing N100. Our correspondent learnt that the victim, who is a primary four pupil in a private school, lived with the suspect in the Afariogun, Oshodi area of the state.

Command arrests suspected robber of bank customers

 

The Lagos State Police Command has arrested a suspected robber, Olaide Mutairu, in the Ilasamaja area of the state. PUNCH Metro gathered that the 27-year-old suspect was among a gang of robbers that terrorised bank customers in the community. Our correspondent was told that the Ibadan, Oyo State indigene, had allegedly entered Abimbola Street with other gang members on two motorcycles and were about to attack their victim when policemen in the area engaged them in a gun battle.

Computer teacher gives schoolgirl N30 after rape

 

The police in Lagos State have arrested a computer teacher, Cosmos Ubaja, for allegedly raping a 14-year-old schoolgirl in the Owutu area of Ikorodu. PUNCH Metro learnt that the victim, Victoria (pseudonym), was lured by the suspect when she went to his shop to make photocopies after school hours. Our correspondent gathered that Victoria, who attends a public secondary school in Owutu, Ikorodu, had been allegedly raped by the suspect on several occasions in eight months.

FMC’s chief accountant kidnapped in Ondo

 

The Chief Accountant of the Federal Medical Centre, Owo, Ondo State, Mr. Kayode Asaju, has been kidnapped by suspected gunmen. Asaju, who was on his way to Abuja, was reportedly abducted on Sunday on the Lokoja-Abuja Road. A source in the hospital told our correspondent on Monday that Asaju was on his way to Abuja for an official meeting scheduled in the Federal Capital Territory, before the hoodlums stopped his vehicle on the highway and took him away.

Salesgirl in a coma after rape by hoodlums

 

Some hoodlums have raped a salesgirl (name withheld) to a coma after beating her at the Ekuigbo community of Ughelli-North Local Government Area of Delta State.

The incident occurred on Monday at a store where the victim sold fish feed. The girl was said to be in her 20s. It was gathered that the incident was one of several rape cases in the community as the wife of a popular hotelier had also been reportedly attacked and raped last Friday.

 Ondo NDLEA arrests 66 over drug offences

 

The Ondo State Command of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency said it had arrested 66 suspects for various drug-related offences in the state between January and May 2016. The Commander of the agency in the state, Mr. Mohammed Sokoto, spoke while briefing journalists on the annual United Nations International Day against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking, in Akure, on Sunday.

 School-leavers arrested for producing fake engine oil

 

Operatives of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps have arrested four school-leavers for allegedly producing adulterated engine oil. The suspects, John Ibem, Lawrence Frank, Agu Ndubuisi and Samuel Chukwuonye, were paraded on Friday at the Lagos State Command of the NSCDC in Ikeja. It was learnt that they were apprehended on Thursday at a factory on Marine Bridge Street, Apapa, where the lubricant was produced in large quantity.

 Anambra hemp dealers beat security with siren –NDLEA

 

THE National Drug Law Enforcement Agency, Anambra State Command, has said that Indian hemp dealers in the state use siren to beat security operatives. The NDLEA Commander in the state, Mr. Sule Momodu, made the disclosure on Monday during the International Day against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking held in Awka, the state capital.

 254 teachers sue Wike over unpaid salaries

 

No fewer than 254 workers, whose salaries have been stopped since February 2016, have dragged the Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Wike, to the National Industrial Court of Nigeria sitting in Bayelsa State. The workers, who are teachers of primary and demonstration schools of the Rivers State University of Science and Technology, Ignatius Ajuru University of Education and Ken Saro-Wiwa Polytechnic, Bori, have prayed the court to compel the government to pay their salaries.

 60-year-old widower drowns in Edo flood

 

A 60-year-old man, identified as Osarobo Obayuwana, has drowned in a flood off First Powerline Street, Evbuotubu Quarters in Egor Local Government Area of Edo State.

It was learnt that late Obayuwana was on his way home and was trying to cross over an open drainage system said to be under construction when he tripped and fell.

A family member, who gave her name as Mrs. Izekor Isoken, said the victim had called for help but could not get any before he was swept away by the flood at about 12pm last Friday.

 Kingship tussle upsets two Anambra communities

 

There is tension in Lilu and Oraukwu communities in Ihiala and Idemili North Local Government Areas of Anambra State over alleged plot by the state government to impose stooges on them. The outgoing President General of Lilu, Prince Hez Okonkwo, told Southern City News in Awka that a group, which was trying to foist the new leadership on the community, was positioning the local government commissioner who is from the town, to replace the late traditional ruler of Lilu, Igwe Felix Olikagu, who died in 1983.

 SON raids Anambra supermarkets

 

The Standards Organisations of Nigeria on Monday raided several supermarkets in Anambra State over substandard products. The agency said it discovered that some supermarkets in the state still sold expired products. While confiscating such products, the agency gave an assurance that defaulters would be punished accordingly.

Speaking with newsmen in Awka, the state capital, the Head of the agency in Anambra State, Mr. Samuel Ayuba Ushe, said the agency had raided the Iron-rod Market Atani, near Onitsha.

 Pipeline vandals abduct landlord in Arepo

 

Samson Olufemi, a landlord, has been abducted by some suspected pipeline vandals  in Voera Estate, Arepo area of Ogun State. The vandals are said to have entered the estate by scaling the fence into the victim’s house on Michael Ajao Street. They were said to have switched off the man’s generator to perform their operation.

Lagos Metro was told that the landlord sent his son to actually look at the generator and re-start the engine.

 3 killed, 100 cult members arrested in Sango

 

THE police at Sango area command and Sango divisional police station have arrested no fewer than 100 suspected cult members.

Cult members have, in recent times, been on the rampage around Joju, Araromi, Idiorogbo, Osmak, Temidire and Johnson Market, killing three people in the process.

Lagos Metro gathered that 40 of the arrested cult members had been remanded in prison custody, while about five of them had been convicted.

Residents of the Lagos border communities had, in the last two weeks, been thrown into confusion, following the constant clashes between Eiye and Aiye confraternities.

 Threat: Police begin 24-hour marine, motorised patrol of Third Mainland bridge

 

THE police in Lagos State are not taking the threat by some militants that they would bomb the Third Mainland Bridge with kid gloves, as motorised and marine patrol has been intensified around the bridge. Lagos Metro gathered that the state police boss, Fatai Owoseni, reportedly directed a 24-hour surveillance around the bridge.

The spokesperson of the state police command, Dolapo Badmos, also confirmed to Lagos Metro that the state police command was not treating the threat with kids gloves.

 Ogun community: Police, military, militants in gun battle

 

FOR about 20 minutes on Monday afternoon, the police and military personnel engaged miscreants suspected to be militants in a shootout at Ebute-Ibafo, in Obafemi Owode Local Government Area of Ogun State, over attack on the community.

The hoodlums, who were aware of heavy security presence in the area, launched attack from their hideouts on security agents led by the Deputy Commissioner of Police in charge of Operations, Bello Makwashi; the Brigade Commander, 35 Artillery Brigade, Alamala, Mohammed Danwalis and the State Director of Department of State Service, Kabiru Sanni.

 DELTA GOVT TO RIVERINE COMMUNITIES: Prepare for another round of flooding

 

DELTA State Commissioner, Bureau for Special Duties, Mr Chika Ossai, has advised those residing in riverine communities of the state to take proactive measures to avoid being caught by the impending flood to check unnecessary casualties. Ossai who gave the advice in Asaba, stressed the need for those leaving in flood prone areas to prepare for another round of flooding this rainy season.

 Police Sergeant found dead by fiancee

 

The lifeless body of a policeman attached to Alausa Division, Lagos, was found in his room in Ojodu area of the state. The cause of his death could, however, not be ascertained and there was reportedly no gunshot injury on him to suggest any attack by gunmen. There were also no marks to suggest violence. Vanguard gathered that the deceased, identified as Sergeant GodsPower Okoro, who was in his 40s, was discovered lifeless on his bed by his fiancée, who came visiting Sunday morning.

 Oyo Assembly approves N14.2bn FG bailout for salaries

 

The Oyo State House of Assembly has approved the application of the state government to approach the Federal Government for a N14.16 billion bailout fund. The approval came up at an emergency plenary session of the Assembly yesterday, presided over by the Speaker, Hon. Michael Adeyemo. The speaker opined that the bailout, which would be given by the Federal Government in addition to the  monthly allocation, was strictly meant for the payment of workers’ salary in the state.

New militant group threatens govt, oil facilities in Imo

 

A new militant group that operates on the platform of  Niger Delta Red Squad, NDRS, has threatened to attack some government and oil  facilities in Imo State. The fresh threat is coming barely few  days after it hit a facility operated by Shell Petroleum Development Company in Awarra, Ohaji/Egbema local council area of Imo State. Confirming the initial attack on the Shell facility, the Police Public Relations Officer, PPRO, of the State Police Command, Mr. Andrew Enwerem, a deputy superintendent of police, DSP, said that they received the report of the incident, but could not immediately say the extent of damage done by the attack.

11 fake Naval officers arrested in Rivers

 

ELEVEN men suspected to be fake naval officers have been arrested in Rivers State. The suspects were said to have been parading themselves as navy personnel with different ranks before they were apprehended around the Rukpokwu Police checkpoint. The outgoing Commander NNS Pathfinder, Commodore Sanusi Ibrahim, who disclosed this on Wednesday while handing over the suspects to the Rivers Police Command, explained that they (suspects) disguised as “merchant navy” with the aim of defrauding the public and some companies in the state.

 Lebanese dupes three Lagos customers, absconds with N170m

 

A Lebanese and bureau de change operator, Aly Sayad, has been accused of absconding with $487,700 (about N170m)  in the Victoria Island area of Lagos State.

It was learnt that three businessmen had approached the suspect in his office on Idowu Taylor Street, Victoria Island, to help them change $487,700 to naira.

He was alleged to have left the men in the office after collecting the money, saying he was going to the bank to transfer the naira equivalent to their various bank accounts.

 Suspected serial rapist set ablaze in Delta

 

An angry mob on Wednesday set ablaze a suspected member of a gang of serial rapists that had terrorised Ughelli and its neighbouring communities in Delta State.

No fewer than four ladies, including the wife of a popular hotelier in the metropolis, had been raped by the gang of rapists in the last two weeks.

One of the victims lost her life in the process. The group, according to residents, specialises in raping and attacking salesgirls and middle-aged women.

 Gunmen abduct Delta lawmaker’s wife, demand N200m ransom

 

Gunmen suspected to be kidnappers on Sunday abducted Mrs. Cynthia Diden, one of the wives of the member representing Warri-North state constituency in the Delta State House of Assembly, Mr. Michael Diden, popularly known as Ejele. Ejele is a close ally of  the state Governor, Ifeanyi Okowa. The suspected kidnappers, who had contacted the family, reportedly demanded N200m as ransom before she would be released.

 Kogi strike, act of sabotage — GOVT

 

AS the ongoing industrial action by workers in Kogi State enters day five today, the state government yesterday, described the strike as act of sabotage. This came as a human rights activist, Abdul Miliki, threw his weight behind the strike, calling on the government to settle with labour as well as resolve the lingering crisis in the state House of Assembly.
