The eagerly awaited game day finally arrived and all parties looked fired up for the main event. Courteville FC adorned their traditional Blue Home Kit and the AutoReg Agents were kitted in their away jersey of Green. There was one final work out for both sides on the Campos Mini-Stadium pitch before kick-off and just before the kick-off both sides took pictures before the referee dished out instructions emphasizing that it is just a friendly game and no animosity required.
Courteville FC kicked off the game playing from right to left with its Group Managing Director (GMD) Mr. Adebola leading the front line for the team. The Courteville XI meant business with the way they started the game and the GMD doing a good job of keeping the Agents’ center backs on their toes. Courteville’s domination of possession eventually paid off going 2 goals up within five minutes. It was looking good for Courteville FC and all present would have predicted a victory in their favour. The agents were able to pull one goal back later on and as the first half wore on they equalized. Shortly before half time Courteville were gifted a free-kick which was well converted to restore their advantage. Courteville FC went into half time with a 3-2 lead.
The 2nd half kicked-off with the Agents taking charge of the game. It was not long before Courteville FC caved into the pressure conceding another goal to even scores at 3-3. From that moment the agents did not look back. The Courteville team looked a shade of the team that started the first half and were run ragged by the Agents conceding 2 more goals to lose 5-3. The Agents deservedly walked away with the bragging rights but the post-match comments had a number of the Agents’ players commending the efforts of Courteville FC stating they faced a much improved Courteville side.
It was a wonderful Saturday morning of football and despite the loss, the Courteville Team are willing to go back to the drawing board and come back better and stronger for future challenges.
