FG TO PROVIDE DIGITAL SKILLS HOME TRAINING

The Federal Ministry of Communications and Digital Economy has said it is partnering some institutions to provide opportunities for Nigerians to acquire cutting-edge digital skills while they stay at home. Majority of Nigerians are staying at home in line with the lockdown ordered by the President, Major General Muhammadu Buhari (retd.), as a result of the coronavirus pandemic.

A statement from Technical Assistant (Information Technology) to the Minister of Communications and Digital Economy, Femi Adeluyi, said the Federal Government was promoting options for digital training for Nigerians. “This is especially important at a time when the world stays home to combat the spread of COVID-19,” the statement explained.

Adeluyi said the Federal Government had already signed a Memorandum of Understanding with IBM and the partnership is expected to provide a platform for Nigerians to acquire digital skills from home. “Through this partnership and as part of the IBM Digital Nation Africa Programme, the Ministry will be providing Nigerians with over 280 hours of free learning and 85 courses on key emerging technologies,” the statement added.

Adeluyi said courses would be available on emerging technologies such as Blockchain, Artificial Intelligence, Big Data and Cloud Computing. He advised Nigerians interested in the programme to register at http://idna.digitalnigeria.gov.ng. Other programmes include training courses based on collaborations with other development partners such as African Development Bank and Huawei.
