Today is giving Tuesday and the staff of Courteville Business Solutions Plc partnered with the organizers for this cause. #GivingTuesday is a global initiative which was endorsed and promoted by social, political and business leaders. It was introduced in 2012 by the United Nations Foundation, as a way to engender and philanthropy.
His Excellency, President Muhammadu Buhari serves as the Grand Patron of #GivingTuesday in Nigeria with His Excellency Professor Yemi Osibajo serving as the National Patron.
#GivingTuesdayNg is powered by Committee Encouraging Corporate Philanthropy (CECP). This year, #GivingTuesday activities kicked off on March 1, 2016 with the Centurions’ Luncheon convened by the Vice President of Nigeria at the Transcorp Hilton, Abuja. Subsequently, the Governor of Lagos State hosted Nigeria’s most eminent Philanthropists and Philanthrocrats at #GivingTuesday Lagos on June 14, 2016 at the Lagos House, Ikeja.
The global (universal) #GivingTuesday celebrations take place towards the end of each year. It is an antidote to end-of-year consumerism and also means of expressing gratitude for all the blessings of the out-going year. Nigeria will join the rest of the world in this observance through activities scheduled to hold as follows.
- Tuesday, November 29, 2016: universal (global) #GivingTuesday- to be observed locally in homes/offices.
- Tuesday, December 6, 2016: #GivingTuesday National Youth Banquet at the Convention Centre, Eko Hotel & Suites, Victoria Island, Lagos at 4pm. The theme of #GivingTuesdayNg 2016 is ‘Philanthropy and the Youth’
All funds raised through the 2016 #GivingTuesday activities would go towards the ” BIG WAR Against Cancer in Nigeria”, aimed at ”Taking holistic health care to the Grassroots” by acquiring and deploying 37 Mobile Cancer Centres (MCC), one for each state and Abuja. A LOT OF PROGRESS HAS ALREADY BEEN MADE IN THE IMPLEMENTATION OF THIS PROJECT.
