Courteville Cup: Courteville FC to play Credit Direct in Final

The semi-final fixtures of the ongoing Courteville Cup was concluded on Saturday December 8, 2018. In the first game on the day, hosts Courteville FC squared up against Motor Vehicle Administration Agency (MVAA) FC. It was a game between two families going by the business relationship between Courteville and the Agency and as they say “Nobody wins when the family feuds”.

The game kicked with the hosts showing a lot of promise and should have gone ahead in the opening minutes of the tie but the MVAA goalkeeper was barely fazed by the timidity or weakness of the shots fired at his goal. Courteville created more chances as the game wore on fluffing all of them. The MVAA lads also had a couple of chances to take the lead but could not bury them. Both sides went into the break with no goals ending the half 0:0.

The second half kicked off with Courteville showing same promise displayed in the first half but could not convert their chances. The Courteville FC coach had to ring in changes with the aim of not ruing the chances missed. The substitution made didn’t bring the desired change. The game dragged on and it was looking like it would end in a draw. A player was sent off from the MVAA team for a second bookable offence and the red card seem to spur the MVAA lads into action and they came close a couple of times before Courteville FC decided to score to calm the nerves of their fans present.

The game went on and it was looking like Courteville FC had the game in the bag, they were more confident as the clock ran down and just about a couple of minutes to the end of the game they bagged a second goal via a freekick. Boooooom 2:0, game over and a ticket to the final secured. It was a better display from the Courteville FC lads when compared to their quarter-final game against C.A.C FC.

The other semi-final game which decided who would face Courteville FC in the final was between Credit Direct FC and Jackson, Etti and Edu FC (JEE). Though it was expected that Credit Direct would nick the tie, but this is football anything could have happened. JEE were able to keep the half time scores at 0:0 despite the flurry of chances Credit Direct had and the dominance of possession. The second half kicked of with Credit Direct picking up from where they stopped in the first half. JEE could not hold their own any longer as Credit Direct got a goal for all the pressing they had shown. Credit Direct got another goal to end the game 2:0 in their favour.
